This stunning Brazilian actress and model made her debut on the catwalk as a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2000 and a model for Maybelline cosmetics from 2003 to 2009. She is one of the top-earning models in the world, listed in Forbes’s top list as earning $7.3 million in a year. Currently she is ranked as the third highest earning model in the world, only behind Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen. She has two daughters with her husband, Marko Jaric, a Serbian basketball player.
She was discovered at the age of 15 when she won Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” competition. Although she had won many beauty pageants, she had never considered becoming a model before then. She began making appearances in the international editions of Marie Claire and Vogue in the years of 1997 and 1998, as well as modelling on the catwalk for Valentino, Christian Lacroix and many other luxurious fashion names. When she was featured in a Vassarette advertisement which was displayed in Times Square, her print modelling career really began to take off. She became a “Guess” girl and starred in the 2000 Costanoa campaign.
It was her fame as a “Guess” girl that gave her international recognition and brought her to a supermodel status, as she would go on to appear in the advertising campaigns for Gasoline, Bebe, Anna Sui Jeans, Keds, BCBG, Mossimo and XOXO.
She is most well known for her Victoria’s Secret work and she first modelled for the company in 1999 before being chosen to join the Angels in 2000. She has appeared in the shows ever since and even opened the show in 2003 as well as in 2007, 2008 and 2010. She opened the show in 2012 only two months after she had delivered her second child.
Adriana has a unique beauty, which is a result of her African-Brazilian, Native Brazilian, French, Portuguese and Caribbean heritage. Maxim Magazine ranked her at #57 in the Hot 100 of 2003.
Lima appeared in several television advertisements for Victoria’s Secret, including a commercial entitled “Angel in Venice” with Bob Dylan which was both criticized and praised. She is also well know for wearing the “Fantasy Bra” during the 2008 fashion show, that was worth over $5 million and contained 3,575 black diamonds, 34 rubies and 117 white diamonds. When Adriana Lima appeared solo in a Super Bowl ad in 2008, it was the most watched ad of the game and was seen by 103.7 million viewers. She has also made a few television appearances including guest starring roles in Ugly Betty in 2008 and How I Met Your Mother in 2007.
She also gained a lot of fame in Italy after being the face of the Italian cellphone carrier Telecom Italia Mobile’s advertising campaign. These days, Adriana Lima is represented by Lumiere Models in Brazil, DNA NY in the USA and VIVA Models in Europe.
Adriana Lima has used her success to do positive things in the world, as she has been donating money and working with orphaned children in Brazil for several years.
